The On-Premise course is designed for bartenders and waitstaff who serve alcohol to be consumed on-site at restaurants or bars. The Off-Premise course is for individuals who sell alcohol for consumption off the premises, such as at liquor stores, concerts, or events. Our course covers both on-premise services and off-premise sales and covers all necessary training topics.

Currently, New York state law does not mandate alcohol training for sellers and servers. However, many local ordinances or individual employers, including several large corporations in the state, now require employees who sell or serve alcohol to complete an NYSLA-approved responsible alcohol certification course. While not universally required, this training can significantly reduce risk for bartenders and employees with alcohol-serving responsibilities. ATAP training is considered a mitigating factor in the case of any lawsuit liabilities, meaning that proof of successful training can offer a limited affirmative defense to potentially reduce charges or lessen sentences in the event of an alcohol law violation.

8. Do I have to finish the course in one sitting?

Food Handler Cards or certificates issued by an accredited program are recognized throughout the state of New York by regulatory authorities as the valid proof of successful completion of an accredited food handler education or training program under New York Health and Safety Code.

9. What do I need to do when my Alcohol Awareness Training certification expires?

To maintain your Alcohol Training Awareness Program certification, you will need to retake the course every three years.
